What Is Rising Damp?

Rising damp is the aftermath when groundwater rises up through walls, floors and masonry via capillary action. The moisture will continue to rise until it reaches a height where, unless no evaporation is possible, gravity takes over and pulls it down again.

The only way to effectively and permanently treat rising damp is to remove the contaminated plaster, install a chemical damp proof course and re plaster the wall using a waterproof salt retardant plaster render system. Our highly experienced plastering crew are able to blend the new plaster very closely with the existing finishes.

What Is Lateral Damp?

Lateral Damp is caused by penetrating moisture. This can happen when the external ground level is higher than the building so moisture is able to penetrate through the walls.

Penetrating damp is usually classed as any kind of liquid that makes its way through the interior of the building from the outside. It can also be caused by missing roof tiles, overflowing gutters, wind driven rain, poorly maintained walls, leaking pipes, and other structural problems
